Awakening the Pyramids: A Journey Through Afrofuturistic Design

The process of creating the album cover for Q. Cole's "Afromations" was truly an adventure in itself. Q's vision of creating a sound that affirms Blackness and takes the listener on a journey to self-awareness and love was the starting point for our exploration. As we dove deeper into his ideas, Q mentioned his desire to blend 80s neon-style movie posters with African-inspired aesthetics. We knew we had something special on our hands. With a mission to find the perfect balance between these two concepts, I spent hours researching Afrofuturistic artwork and presented Q with a range of options that perfectly captured the essence of his vision. Using Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop, I brought his vision to life by creating a stunning Afrofuturistic collage of the pyramids awakening and rising into the heavens. The artwork evolved to reflect a lone traveler's search for their place in the world, awakening their inner strength and connecting with the power of the Earth. The resulting album cover not only captured the essence of Q. Cole's powerful music but also inspires listeners to embark on their own journey of self-discovery and embrace the limitless potential of the human spirit.
